Specializing in minimally invasive procedures and focusing on thoracic and cardiovascular diseases, the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Shanghai Yida Hospital boasts a team of experienced physicians. Led by Professor Xiao Mingdi, who holds the title of "National Famous Doctor", and Director Li Baojun, a member of the Military Medical Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Professional Committee and Member of the Shanghai Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery Professional Committee, the department collaborates with multiple disciplines to provide comprehensive diagnosis and individualized standardized treatment, safeguarding the health of the heart and chest in an all-round way.
The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Shanghai Yida Hospital integrates clinical practice and scientific research, with strong technical strength. Its predecessor was the Thoracic Surgery Department of Yuanda Cardiothoracic Hospital, which was fully relocated to Shanghai Yida Hospital in June 2022. The department ranks among the top in the country in terms of the treatment data of high-risk and complex cases, with over a thousand surgeries performed annually. It has been awarded the title of "National Clinical Key Specialty" by the National Health Commission. The department maintains long-term technical collaboration with hospitals such as Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai Changhai Hospital, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, and Shanghai Children's Medical Center, conducting joint consultations and surgeries.
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery is a key discipline of the hospital. Currently, it has two wards with 92 beds, and 27 ICU beds are reserved. There are 4 dedicated 100-level operating rooms. The department has a team of 40 doctors and nurses of different ages. It can perform various surgeries for heart and large vessel diseases, such as minimally invasive small incision heart surgeries, as well as heart valve surgeries, lung cancer surgeries, and esophageal cancer surgeries based on minimally invasive thoracoscopic techniques.

Heart valve replacement and reconstruction surgeries, coronary artery bypass surgeries with and without extracorporeal circulation, surgeries for congenital heart diseases in infants and children, and surgeries for various complex congenital heart diseases, aortic dissection and aneurysm surgeries.

Minimally invasive small incision cardiac surgery:
The right axillary small incision congenital heart disease surgery is one of the technical specialties of the department, which is at the advanced level in China. Small incision cardiac valve surgery through the parasternal area and the upper segment of the sternum is routinely carried out.
